Types of Assisted Living Available in Maine

The biggest issue with Maine is there is far less variety of assisted living properties (though a large number of adult foster homes) compared to other densely populated states like New York and New Jersey to the southeast.

While waiting lists may be implemented with select senior living providers, overall expect to find the standard types including smaller assisted living facilities as well as residential care institutions with adult foster care.

Personal care services can assist with daily living activities, while directed care services work in smaller group sizes to provide regular and hands-on interaction. Supervisory care services are far less supervised but can help with certain lifestyle needs.

Traditional services are provided along with extra amenities like a community/events center, fitness room, library, community garden and other added luxuries.

Paying for Assisted Living in Maine

The state’s Medicaid program, MaineCare, does provide some help with the monthly cost of assisted living. It is offered through the CDAS, or Personal Care option.
